Hang Loose Santa Catarina Pro Round 1 ON in Clean Surf at Praia Vila

IMBITUBA, Santa Catarina (Saturday, June 27, 2009) – The opening day of the Hang Loose Santa Catarina Pro has been greeted with clean four-to-six foot (2 metre) waves on offer this morning at Praia Vila, prompting event organizers to call competition on with Round 1 hitting the water at 8:15am.

HUNDREDS OF SURFERS TURN OUT TO SUPPORT SAS’S POW ACTION

Surfers Against Sewage’s (SAS) new campaign Protect Our Waves (POW) had it’s first action today, The Gathering, a mass paddle out, in association with local campaign group Access BroadBench Association (ABBA). Over 350 surfers from across the nation joined SAS and ABBA and paddled out at Kimmeridge Bay on International Surfing Day. The action called on the Secretary of State for Defence to allow surfers’ access to Broadbench, a special wave found on the outer boundary of a Ministry of Defence (MoD) firing range.

ASP Dream Tour Euro Contingent to Start Hang Loose Santa Catarina Pro Saturday

CAPBRETON, France (Friday, June 26, 2009) – Europe’s seven representatives on this year’s ASP World Tour, led by current World No. 17 Jérémy Flores (FRA), 21, will start their Brazilian campaign tomorrow in the fourth event of the year. With longtime ratings’ favorites Joel Parkinson (Gold Coast, AUS) and Taj Burrow (Western Australia, AUS) currently leading the ASP Top 45 respectively in first and second position, the battle for the title will resume in the Brazilian waves of Santa Catarina, the seven Europeans surfers all looking to grab valuable points to climb up the ratings.
