Xcel Supertubes Showdown Waiting Period Extended

HALEIWA, OAHU, HAWAII – JUNE 19, 2009 – The first-ever Xcel Supertubes Showdown will extend its waiting period to allow for the best-possible Jeffreys Bay conditions, contest organizers announced yesterday.

“We don’t want to run our inaugural event in average conditions,” says Xcel South Africa’s Koffie Jacobs. “After meeting with locals and competitors, it was agreed to wait for better conditions. We want to have the best competitors competing in the best waves J-Bay can offer.”

Despite a few promising moments, the ideal contestable conditions (6′ swell plus southwest wind) are yet to hit Supertubes. Entering into prime Supers season, contest officials are optimistic that the best opportunity to run the event lies ahead.

Xcel Supertubes Showdown invitees will compete for an enticing first-place prize of entry into the Von Zipper Wildcard Trials, yielding 3 slots into the main event of the Billabong Pro Jeffrey’s Bay WCT event. The 1-day contest will consist of four heats and a four-man final. The event is presented by Xcel and sponsored by DaKine, Von Zipper, Red Bull, Billabong, Nixon, and Sector 9.
